A lifelong educator, Dr. Jim Baker has dedicated his career to better the lives of young adults throughout the Tulsa region.

With over 25 years of experience as a CareerTech instructor for Marketing Education at Jenks Public Schools, Baker exemplified a passion for student success. During his tenure, Baker was named Jenks Public Schools Teacher of the Year, Oklahoma Marketing Teacher of the Year, and Oklahoma CareerTech Teacher of the Year. He retired from teaching after 36 years.

His experience and success in the classroom has shaped his goals as a Board member. Dr. Baker was first elected to the Tulsa Tech Board of Education in 1988.

Dr. Baker has played a large part in the expansion of the Tulsa Tech district, with the addition of the Health Sciences Center at the Lemley Memorial Campus, as well as three additional campus locations to serve more students. This growth led to an increased number of programs to serve more students, as well as helped spearhead efforts to embed CareerTech programs into high schools.

He has been unwavering in support of the needs of students and clients by working to build state-of-the-art facilities and hiring industry-leading instructors to enhance training and improve the overall student experience. Dr. Baker was also an early advocate for school safety measures long before it was being emphasized nationally. He has served the community for more than 20 years as a reserve officer with both the Tulsa Police Department and the Tulsa County Sherriff’s Office.
